Whole School Assembly - RafikiHome Project

Written on: Tuesday 30 April 2019

On Friday, Ms Spain and the Mighty Mentors, our youth mentors group, introduced the rest of the school to a current project this group is working on in Kenya. They also designed posters and letters to share with the children in Kenya.

After school on Friday evening, Ms Spain attended a launch for the RafikiHome project who recognise and support the expertise of local people in Kenya to find ways to empower themselves to change their lives. The project they are currently working on involves supporting a small orphanage.  It is our hope to develop international friendships, awareness of global issues and many worthwhile learning opportunities with the project.

The Mighty Mentors have been focussing on developing this relationship and we, as a school, plan on supporting them through letter writing, posters, blogging, emailing and sending packages throughout the year to the children at the orphanage.

At Friday’s launch RafikiHome announced that they intended to raise £3000 to set up a computer lab for the children in the orphanage as currently they do not have one.

Our children have made some amazing letters and posters to wish RafikiHome well and we hope the orphanage gets a computer soon so that we can begin blogging and sharing our stories.
