Harvest festival celebrations

On Friday we celebrated Harvest Festival with the children, staff and our families. We were joined by our special friends David and Julie from the Salvation Army.

Mr Combe talked about when the Harvest Festival was and why we celebrate Harvest. The children discussed the Rights of the Child Articles 6 and 27 with it being every child’s right to have food, clothing and a safe home and also to survive and thrive.

The children learned how today, we use the opportunity of harvest to help support those that might need it, giving them the figures for how many food parcels have been given out and how these have increased over the years.

Generous Donations!

The hall was packed with lots of different types of food and goods that could be stored in a food bank, including toiletries to share with families in need.

Julie from the Salvation Army told the children a story all about sharing what we have with others.

Our Harvest Song had to be the Harvest Samba which everyone really enjoyed with Makaton being used by the Choir.

David and Julie were really blown away by the generosity of the South Grove Community. With the support of Year 6 and their muscles, the Harvest donations were packed in to the Salvation Army van ready to be stored to be used as part of their food bank.

They also commented on how impressed they were by the children’s excellent behaviour and focus during the assembly. Well done South Grove!

Thank you once again for your generosity of gifts for the Harvest Celebration. It really was a thanks giving morning. Thank you too for all the parents that attended. It made it really special for the children.
