Then we learnt about Sophocles and the role of a playwright in Athenian culture and then we spilt into 3 different groups with different groups to act out a play from each genre only using our hand gestures and masks - just like the Greeks! Wednesday 6 May 2026 Year Three See the Light In Science, we have been studying light. One of our lessons has been about sun safety and understanding that the UV rays coming from the sun are what cause damage to our skin. It is very important that when you are out in the sun, you protect yourself with sunglasses (with UV protection), a hat, protective clothing, and sunscreen — the higher the SPF, the better. It is also VERY important that we do not look directly at the sun, as that will damage our eyes. To help us look at the sun more safely, we created pinhole cameras to project a shadow onto a piece of paper.

Friday 1 May 2026 Year Three get Volcanic! This week, we finished our unit on volcanoes by completing a synoptic task. For this assignment, we drew Mount Etna and included surrounding details such as farms, tourists, scientists, and geologists. After finishing our drawings, we labelled the different activities taking place. For example, we showed geologists collecting lava samples and scientists traveling over the volcano to monitor signs of a potential eruption, such as temperature changes or the crater growing in size. We also wrote about how tourists visit volcanoes for activities like hiking and skiing. We have thoroughly enjoyed our lessons about volcanoes!

Monday 20 April 2026 Year Four's Spy Dance Last week, Year 4 continued their new dance topic, exploring interpretive dance and how dance can describe characters and stories without words. We have been focusing on acting like sneaky spies, using different levels and movements such as rolling across the floor and hiding actions. We started the lesson by recapping how to count beats in songs using our own spy-themed tunes. We then worked in pairs to create action-and-reaction routines, demonstrating how we can use a variety of movements to create exciting, action-packed choreography. Examples of the movements we used include tilting while our partners leaned, pushing and falling, and spinning around one another.Once we had finished creating our choreography, we performed to another pair to receive feedback on our unison, timing, and dynamics.

Thursday 16 April 2026 Year Four's Abstract Expressionism This term, our Year 4 students have stepped into the world of Abstract Expressionism as they begin their research on the legendary American artist, Jackson Pollock. To truly understand Pollock's focus on the process of making art rather than just the final result, our young artists took part in a unique sensory experiment. We explored his early interests in automatic drawing by creating our own "blind" versions of his work.By using only colouring pencils and, most importantly, closing their eyes, the children let their hands move freely across the paper. By removing the sense of sight, they were able to focus on movement, rhythm, spontaneity and emotions.Ms Lovell-Young

Sunday 22 March 2026 Year 4 are Bloggers! Last week Year 4 continued their fantastic new Computing topic - We are Bloggers! Following our brilliant introduction to the Greek Gods in History, we were super excited to learn more about who the Gods were and how they were all friends and foes. Instead of simply teaching ourselves about the Greek Gods, we have instead created more in-depth blog posts to teach others about them on Google Sites. We first began by designing an eye-catching heading for our blogs as nobody wants to read something with no colour! Then we changed the fonts and added images so our audience knows who/what we are referring to. We have found out so many fun facts by learning in this way!

Friday 20 March 2026 Year Five Explore Christianity As part of their RE learning, year 5 have been exploring whether Christians can truly live by the values of Jesus in the 21st century. They focused particularly on the themes of love and forgiveness. Through discussions and real-life examples, they considered how people show love to others in everyday situations, reflecting on how qualities such as patience, kindness and humility can be shown in everyday actions and relationship. The class also explored Jesus' teaching that we should forgive others, even when it is difficult. They examined different scenarios and reflected on the challenges of forgiving someone who has hurt them. They were especially struck by the example of Jesus praying for those responsible for his crucifixion, showing compassion and forgiveness even in suffering. This helped deepen their understanding of how these values can still be relevant and meaningful today.

Our skeleton helps us to move, stay standing and protects many of our vital organs. We used masking tape to map our skeleton on our body.

We have been using our balls skills that we were learning about last term to help us.This week, we focused on exploring how to handle the racket and how we control our body whilst holding one.We focused on control whilst using a tennis ball: tapping the ball up and down and then turning our wrists whilst alternating the racket face. Then, we moved on to bouncing the ball into the hoop using the racket ensuring the ball kept within our hoop. Some of the children found this very challenging but were very persistent. Finally, we ended our lesson with a rally.

Tuesday 24 February 2026 Girls Football Last Tuesday, nine girls from Years 5 and 6 went to Chingford Goals to represent the school in the UKS2 football tournament. Martialled by our super-skipper Ida, we swept imperiously through the group stage with some cracking goals from Bianca, Zainab and Janae. In midfield, we had out rock - Olivia - who was the heartbeat of the team and the non-stop energy of Connie and Emilia. Pola backed them up with great defensive play. We went into the quarter final with a record of four wins and one draw. In the quarter, we played Davis Lane. It was a tightly contested game with few chances and Rosie saved us with some great saves. However, with the last kick of the game, they somehow managed to squeeze in a goal and end our participation in the competition.

We learnt about Odysseus and his cunning plan to defeat the Trojans and take back Helena 'the face that launched a thousand ships!' We were given a series of pictures to sequence with our partner and to help our oracy we used stem sentences to retell the famous story. Some of us then took on the challenge to try and retell the story to the class without using the words umm or errr. It was pretty tricky! We are looking forward to learning more about this and seeing what amazing writing we can create.
