Year Fours' Trip to Natural History Museum
Year Fours' Trip to Natural History Museum
On Tuesday, Year 4 swapped the classroom for a world of wonders at the Natural History Museum. The adventure began as soon as we left the underground passage and we set eyes upon the impressive building itself. Once we entered the museum, we explored the central gallery before digging straight into our lunch.
Now full and ready to explore, we headed straight for the Volcanoes and Earthquakes exhibit. Upon arriving, the children were given their exhibit booklet and were set free with their adults to search for the answers. During this time, the children got up close with shimmering crystals, ancient lava rocks, tectonic plates, how people stay safe in active zones and even a 'heat suit' used by brave volcanologists. From there, we dove straight into the science of our restless planet. The highlight for many was the famous earthquake simulator. Stepping into a recreation of a Japanese supermarket, students felt the ground tremble beneath their feet, experiencing exactly what it’s like when the Earth decides to move and groove! It was a shaky, giggly, and eye-opening lesson in the power of nature.
To end our day, we went on the iconic red escalator, ascending through a glowing metal globe into the heart of the Earth.
A huge thank you to our parent volunteers for helping us navigate our trip and making it memorable for the pupils!
