Year Five Adopt a Chef!

Year Five Adopt a Chef!

Year 5 recently enjoyed a fantastic Adopt a Chef experience, where they learned some important food preparation skills. The session began with a safety video explaining how to handle a plastic knife correctly before the children were introduced to two key cutting techniques: the bridge hold and the claw grip.

Putting their new skills into practice, the children carefully chopped a variety of healthy ingredients, including cucumber, lettuce, tomato, celery and radishes. After all their hard work, they were rewarded with the opportunity to sample their delicious homemade salads, which proved very popular!

The children also took part in an exciting Takeover Day, dressing up as careers they might like to pursue in the future. As part of the week, they were visited by Miss Crawford, who spoke about her career as an engineer. She explained that engineers need to be curious, enjoy solving puzzles and love finding creative solutions to problems.

Miss Crawford shared fascinating stories about travelling all over the world through her work and even visiting countries shortly after they had experienced earthquakes. The children listened attentively and asked some excellent questions, including what her favourite part of being an engineer is and what achievement she is most proud of.

Miss Crawford's inspiring talk certainly sparked lots of interest and may even have encouraged some future engineers in Year 5!
