Year Five Visit the Science Museum
Year 5 enjoyed an exciting and educational trip to the Science Museum this week. During our visit, we attended a fascinating live demonstration called Mission to Space, which revisited some of the key concepts we have already studied in our Earth and Space topic. The children were able to recap their understanding of the geocentric and heliocentric models of the solar system, as well as the important work of Galileo and how his discoveries changed our view of the universe.
The show also introduced us to new and exciting scientific ideas. We learned about the vacuum of space through a series of engaging demonstrations, including a memorable experiment involving Mr Potato Head! The children also discovered how solar energy can be used to power spacecraft and explored some of the challenges astronauts face when travelling and living in space.
Throughout the day, the children were enthusiastic, curious and eager to learn. They asked thoughtful questions and made excellent links to their previous learning. Most importantly, they were exceptionally well-behaved and represented the school brilliantly. We were very proud of the way they conducted themselves and the positive comments we received from members of the public and museum staff.
A big thank you to all of the staff and volunteers who helped make the trip such a success.
Mr Andrews
