Year Four's Abstract Expressionism

This term, our Year 4 students have stepped into the world of Abstract Expressionism as they begin their research on the legendary American artist, Jackson Pollock.
To truly understand Pollock’s focus on the process of making art rather than just the final result, our young artists took part in a unique sensory experiment. We explored his early interests in automatic drawing by creating our own "blind" versions of his work.
By using only colouring pencils and, most importantly, closing their eyes, the children let their hands move freely across the paper. By removing the sense of sight, they were able to focus on movement, rhythm, spontaneity and emotions.
