Year Four's Science Week

Year 4 had a fantastic time taking part in Science Week 2026! Throughout the week, the children explored different scientific ideas through fun and exciting experiments.

One of the highlights was the famous Coke and Mentos experiment. We predicted what we thought would happen when Mentos were dropped into bottles of Coke. This taught us about reactions between substances and how gases can be released very quickly.

Another challenge involved designing and testing different types of paper planes. The children worked in groups to create planes with different shapes and sizes, then tested how far and how well they could fly. We asked why some planes travelled further than others and thought about how air resistance and design affect flight.

Finally, we made strong, long-lasting bubbles by creating our own bubble mixture using washing-up liquid and Glycerin. They experimented with the mixture and tested how well their bubbles formed. The we discovered that adding Glycerin helped the bubbles become stronger and last longer before popping, which led to lots of excitement as they tried to make the biggest bubbles possible."
