Monday 23 June 2025 Year Six's Fiver Challenge! This half term, we took part in the Junior Enterprise Project and completed work towards our Fiver Challenge! We had to make a profit from £5, which was provided by the school. We made our business, created our business name, designed a logo, presented our sales pitch and sold our product on our stall during the Fiver Challenge Fair. It was such an enjoyable experience raising money for our end of Year 6 party! Along the way, we learnt a lot about finance helping us with life skills and how we can use these skills well beyond primary school!

Friday 13 June 2025 KS1 Quadkids Athletics competition On Friday 13th of June, a small group of KS1 pupils took part in an Athletics competition at the Feel Good Centre. They took part in 4 different events which were a long jump, sprint, howlers throw and a long distance run. All pupils put in 100% effort and Ms White and Ms George are very proud of the children's performance.

Friday 13 June 2025 1L's Fantastic Summer Class Assembly! 1L's class assembly is based on their Summer Topic: Plants and Flowers. The children showed immense confidence by proudly presenting their fantastic artwork, story-telling, singing, dancing and making their performances very enjoyable and engaging to watch.

Thursday 12 June 2025 3A's Class Assembly about WWII 3A put on a fantastic assembly all about the Second World War! they showcased all of the fantastic learning that has gone on over the past half term and even impressed us with two songs! It was such a pleasure to experience their beautifully written evacuee diary entries, Blitz artwork and were even treated to some VE celebration dancing. We learned all about what it meant to be an evacuee and also what it would have been like in Britain living through such a difficult time. Thank you 3A!

Thursday 12 June 2025 Year 6 have Another Visit from Project Zero "Last week, Year 6 were lucky enough to be visited by our friends at Project Zero again! We also got the opportunity to meet special guest, local rapper Kitch. He told us the inspirational story of his life with a stammer and how this impacted his education and mental health. We heard how he used writing as a means of communication when he felt that his voice was not enough to express what he was feeling. We also got to find out more about the beginnings of Project Zero itself and it's ambitious aims for the future of young people in Waltham Forest. We can't wait to see them again at the end of the school year!"

Monday 9 June 2025 Year 5 become civil Engineers! What better way to so start a week by building bridges. Metaphorically and literally, as part of our topic this term we looked at different types of bridge and what made them strong The structure of a bridge making sure it was strong and sturdy and be able to hold up items. We tried to make the longest bridge we could make using only one sheet of A4 paper. Then we followed a design brief to make a beam bridge to test how many cubes the bridge would hold. There were intense moment just seeing how many cubes could make it on top of of the bridge before they would collapse!

Friday 6 June 2025 Year 6 explore a most fascinating concept in biology- evolution! This week in Science, Year 6 have been exploring one of the most fascinating concepts in biology- evolution! The children have been learning about Charles Darwin and took part in an exciting Science experiment called ‘Battle of the Beaks'. As part of their learning about evolution and adaptation, the children used different tools to represent bird beaks and tested how well they could pick up various foods like seeds and raisins.

Tuesday 3 June 2025 Year 5 Get Cooking What a return to year 5 for our final term! After our week we are well rested and ready to take on all the work and fun that is coming our way. We had our second session of Adopt A Chef with Chef Tessa. This week Chef Tessa helped us to improve to our knife skills using the claw method and the bridge method we applied these to cutting up various salad items. In our salad we chopped up: radishes, peppers, celery, cucumber and lettuce. We found some of the items easier to cut up than others. We couldn't wait to get these salads home and eat all!

Friday 23 May 2025 Year 4 are Fashionistas! Year 4 Fashion Day! This meant children coming to school in their very best outfits, presenting their research projects, and getting involved in some serious D&T. They made friendship bracelets using thread, beads and the power of friendship, and then upcycled old t-shirts into swanky new tote bags. Tote-ally awesome!

Friday 23 May 2025 Year 5's Quidditch and a Victorian Classroom Experience What a week! You knew it was last week before half term. We had participated in Quidditch and a Victorian Classroom Experience! Hogwarts came to South Grove, we flew high and far but don't worry no brooms were in sight, we played a slightly more 'muggle' version of the game! To round off all our fun learning of the Victorians we travelled back in time to 1895 to the Ragged School in Mile End to take part in activities about the Victorians, many of the children thoroughly enjoyed the classroom experience taught by the strict Miss Perkins who told us to sit up straight and only be spoken to when asked to speak! We practised the 3 R's, reading, writing and arithmetic! We are very glad that we are not in the Victorian era that is for sure!

Wednesday 21 May 2025 Year 6 are Fairground Designers! "Following a busy SATS week, Year 6 have been hard at work on an exciting Fairgrounds-themed maths project ready to build their own next half term! As part of their learning, they took on the challenge of designing their own fairground attractions while working out real-world calculations like building fees, running costs, and potential profits. Using their maths skills, they budgeted carefully to make sure their rides were fun, affordable, and financially successful. It was a fantastic way to link maths to everyday life, and the students showed great creativity and problem-solving along the way."

Wednesday 21 May 2025 Year 3 Travel back to the 1940s! We travelled back in time last week to the early 1940s and spent a whole day as people from the WW2 era! Our World War 2 day was filled with fantastic activities which really helped us to deepen our knowledge and understanding of what that time period was like for those living through the war.

Friday 16 May 2025 Year post SATS fun! After weeks of hard work, focus and determination, our amazing Year 6 pupils completed their SATs- and what better way to celebrate their efforts than with a well deserved trip to the park!

Wednesday 14 May 2025 Help us recycle and raise funds for the School! We are now collecting bakery (bread/rolls/crumpets/pannini/bagels etc) plastic packaging (from all brands) including plastic trays, zipper bags and plastic packs. As well as any brand of plastic bread bags and closure tags. These will be sent to Terracycle for recycling and they will pay us £10 for each box weighing more than 2kg from now until July! Please drop these off into the Terracycle bins at the Ringwood Road gate or bring them to the office.

Monday 12 May 2025 Year5 are Cryptographers! This term in computing we have gone from the computing suite to the classroom. Out topic for the term is 'We are Cryptographers'. In the topic we are learning about how they're are different forms of communication and how messages are transmitted across distances. Last week we were blown away attempting Semaphore out of the field. Using red and yellow flags to form letters of the alphabet. This week it was a little bit dark as we were trying Morse-code using torches. We came up with messages to send each other and used the torches to help us. It was very tricky to send these message using the torches to make sure we could understand them and decode the message

Friday 9 May 2025 2F’s Living & Growing Assembly On Friday the hall was filled with all things creepy and crawly as we were treated to a wonderful assembly from 2F all about nature and especially about mini beasts. They opened with a a song, ‘If I were a Minibeast’ which they expertly signed using their Makaton knowledge.

Friday 9 May 2025 Year 4 Create Fabulous Slippers! This week, 4SH slipped into the world of textiles as they began creating their very own slippers! These they designed by themselves, with a target audience in mind, using their knowledge of product marketing. They seemed to enjoy doing it -- they spent the whole time in stitches. 4P have designed theirs this week, and will be creating them next week, so there are good things coming... or sew its seams.

Thursday 8 May 2025 Year 2 - Explore Bugs and Art In Year 2 this week in Art we have been looking at the artist - Maria Sibylla Merian. We also designed a ladybird using different mediums. In D & T we designed our own 'Bug Hotels".

Thursday 1 May 2025 Year 6 Have Fun Revising for SATs Year 6 have been combining their knowledge and creativity as part of their SATs revision in Maths. To revise the properties of different 3D shapes, the children built their own models using art straws. Once built, they investigated key properties: counting vertices, edges and faces, and checking whether the faces were congruent.

Tuesday 29 April 2025 Year 3s WWII Knowledge Harvest We began our new topic on World War II with a knowledge harvest, where the class shared everything they already knew and the questions they’re excited to explore. It was a great way to spark interest and start some thoughtful discussions. The class is already showing lots of curiosity, and we’re looking forward to learning more together over the coming weeks!

Friday 25 April 2025 LKS2 Tennis Tournament This week, Year 4 made a racket in the best of ways, competing in the Waltham Forest LKS2 Tennis Tournament. Teams A and B did fantastically, managing to reach the quarter finals, Team B a measly 4 points away! Way to go kids!

Wednesday 23 April 2025 Welcome Back! I hope all our families had a good break and are now well rested and ready for the Summer term - let’s hope that the weather begins to more consistently reflect this! This is always a very busy term for us and a really important one for all our pupils. This is the term where the children can maximise their learning opportunities as they can really flourish, develop and consolidate their learning during this time.

Friday 4 April 2025 Year 5 Fantastic Space Projects! It's that time of year again, for the infamous Year 5 space projects! Over the Spring term the children have learnt a whole cosmos of information about the planets, the moon and our galaxy. The children thoroughly enjoyed working on their projects coming up with their own unique take on the solar system and more. Mr Andrews and Mrs Grant definitely had their work cut out for them trying to pick a winner..

Thursday 3 April 2025 Eid Assembly On the Thursday before Easter, we were treated to a spectacular Eid Assembly organised and directed by Miss Hubbard. The assembly started with Year 1 explaining what Eid is and why Muslims celebrate the occasion. Year 2 then showed us some of the special food that is associated with Eid such as Sheer Kuma, Jollof rice and baclava - everyone was left wide eyed and feeling more hungry than you would expect at 9.30 in the morning! Some Year 3 children then shared their recent Eid experiences from earlier in the week and it was lovely to hear about how their faith and their family mean to them - not to mention the presents! But Eid is also about the spirit of giving, as Year 4 explained to us, and making sure those who might have less are looked after. Year 5 children then gave us a flavour of how Eid looks slightly different across the world. Monday 31 March 2025 YEAR 5's Careers Week 2025 This Friday we had the annual South Grove Take Over Day where the children experienced what day to day life in school was for the adults. But instead of us telling you what happend we think its better the children who experienced the day can tell yout all about it.
